The village Charankha situated in Patan district of Gujarat has been the epicenter of this tremendous growth of Solar energy in that 2000 hectare of land. Gujarat government has been cooperative and has given great benefits to the developers as well as contractors on the whole. The projects kicked off in a great manner.
Till January 2012 the cumulative projects commissioned or ready to be commissioned from batch I and batch II under Gujarat state policy have been over 600MW ( which is quite remarkable...!!! ) . These projects have been estimated to save around 8million tonnes of carbon dioxide being released into atmosphere every year.
Few big names who have come up with their projects are Azure power, GMR, Kiran Energy, Green Infra, Moser Baer, Lanco, Sunborne energy, Sunedison, Tata power, Wipro ecoenergy, Welspun Urja and many others.
Overall after the visit in the solar park in Charankha it was a pleasant experience to see awareness for Renewable energy and specially Solar sector ( knowing the benefits... )
